Situated in the beautiful Northwest Florida panhandle, The Jeff Ates’ family are 5th generation cattle ranchers, beginning with William (Bill) Ates, who in the mid 1800’s ran cattle and sheep throughout what are now known as Santa Rosa, Escambia, and Okaloosa counties. Bill was well known for his cattle, being one of the first cattlemen to import and use Brahma bulls to cross on Hereford cattle. 1900 was the start of Jeff Ates’ with Jeff Ates Sr. raising cattle, sheep & timber in East Milton. He was also known for his fast horses, having one of the few 1/4 mile “bush” tracks in the area.  Apparently, according to the ‘old timers’ in our area, it was one of the main attractions of its day!

With his grandson, Jeff , III, the tradition continues.  He rebuilt the track and extended it to a 7/8’s oval on which to train thoroughbreds and quarter horses .But, before that,  we, as lifetime members in the American Quarter Horse Association, have raised quality AQHA  performance and ranch horses featuring the foundation bloodlines of  King, Cutter Bill, Jose Uno, Poco Bueno, Blackburn, and Jessie James, just to mention a few.  Our horses can do it all!  Some have also gone on to be competitive roping, barrel and running prospects.  Our  stallions include a grandson of Cutter Bill (also registered with FQHA(100%) and NFQHA(99%)), a ranch cutting grandson of Colonel Freckles & Smart Little Lena; an own son of stakes winning Alabama Flash SI-103;  and we are now crossing a short distance running Thoroughbred grandson of Stakes Winners Lucky North and Devils Cry on  our high foundation Quarter Horse mares.

We offer for sale several high percentage foundation (FQHA registered) young geldings and fillies, and broodmares.  Please check out our sale barn and feel free to contact us at june@jeffatesfarms.com or 850-623-4593.  And thanks for checking out our site!
